Mozambique’s Minister of National Defence, Cristóvão Chume, said this Wednesday that, just as the European Union (EU) provides lethal equipment to Ukraine to contain the Russian offensive, he expects the same to happen in relation to the Mozambican Defence and Security Forces (FADM) and its counterparts from SAMIM and Rwanda in support of the fight against terrorism in Cabo Delgado.
Cristóvão Chume was speaking at the Symposium on Terrorism and Violent Extremism in Africa in Maputo this morning.
The EU has already provided non-lethal support to the FADM through its training and capacity building at training centres in Katembe, in Maputo, and Chimoio, Manica province.
