In a decision that is leaving many citizens perplexed, Orlando Orjana, commonly known as Lil Wayne de Moz, creator of the “woro dance”, which quickly became a phenomenon at home and abroad, appears third on the list approved by the National Elections Commission (CNE) for the Municipal Assembly of the City of Nampula for the Frelimo Party.
Orlando Orjana, who has already written a song in honour of the “good governance of Paulo Vahanle”, the current mayor and head of the list for Renamo, is seen as the “great propaganda machine” for Frelimo in Nampula.
In fact, after the presentation of the list leaders in Nampula, Lil Wayne was the featured musician. A national delegation from Frelimo paid a visit to his commercial establishment, since when his life has changed at the speed of light.
In Nampula, where for the “first time in the history of Frelimo”, a candidate even refused to be head of the list, it has been said that this is the reason why figures like Orlando Orjana appear on the list of Frelimo candidates – as a strategy for survival and mobilisation of the electorate in one of the cities most sought after by the Frelimo party in the upcoming elections.
The history of placing musicians on lists for municipal assemblies does not end just in Nampula. In Matola, Maputo, Quelimane and Beira, Frelimo has used the same electoral tactic, deploying well-known musicians such as Killua, Lourena Nhate, Jorge Mamade and Lourenço Gani for the impending clash, which will echo across the country for the next five years.
