Mozambique: Renamo claims each of these voter cards was ‘bought’ for 300 meticais – Ikweli

The Renamo party representative in Nampula, Ossufo Ulane, on September 5th presented, at the cultural centre of Namicopo, two individuals, apparently ‘block secretaries’ in the Carrupeia neighbourhood, Namicopo administrative post, [in Nampula city], allegedly having taken possession of 65 voter registration cards in order to prevent their legitimate owners from exercising their right to vote on October 11.

According to ‘Jornal Ikweli – in a report titled ‘Heads of block caught red handed with voter cards’ – Renamo representative Ossufo Ulane told reporters that the two individuals had been mandated by Frelimo.

“There is no doubt that money is being wasted because they promised to win the elections on October 11th” he said. “As they had problems destabilising the [voter] registration and we noticed and our members registered, now the mission is to trick people and, for 300 meticais [US$4.70 at current exchange rates] collect the cards from uninformed people, in such a way that they correspond to the expectations they wanted to make in the voter registration. In addition to these cards that we have, the list contains numbers of cards that are not here, which means that there are so many cards that were collected.”

The Renamo representative said that the case would be referred to the Public Prosecutor’s Office.

“Now, as the Renamo party, we will discuss what this will be like, but we need to take this to the Public Prosecutor’s Office to find out that there are individuals in possession of personal voter registration cards because it is an illegal act,” he said.

The agent promised to return the cards to their rightful owners. “So, we now need to launch a campaign to inform people to stop delivering the cards, because they are individual,” he added.

“These cards, collected in exchange for an amount of 300 meticais, the intention of the collection process would be to not return them to the owners with the aim of depriving people of the right to vote on October 11th,” he said.

In response, the Renamo provincial delegate, Abiba Abá, made it known that, as a political party, Renamo has the right to monitor illegal acts so that there is no theft in the voting process on the 11th. “I want to appeal to those directly, Celso Correia, as well as Mr Vaquina, to abandon this spirit and let us hold free, fair and transparent elections and this is democracy, because Renamo is here in the city working and the people have already seen who they should believe in,” she stressed.

Abiba Abá further claimed that the collection of cards is allegedly taking place across the country.

The two men found in possession of the voter cards say that “the connection with the voter cards is due to an association called “204”, which includes all the members who previously worked in the municipal council of the city of Nampula and were expelled without just cause. So, because we are close to the elections we want to express our part, even though we are not accredited, because then we will hand them over to the entities that sent us from our Frelimo party”.

However, another interviewee said that “we organised these cards to take to our partners, which is Frelimo and we did this process only on one day. On other days, we never did this work”.

Nampula: Renamo flagra chefes de quarteirões na posse de cartões de eleitores

O mandatário do partido RENAMO em Nampula, Ossufo Ulane, apresentou no dia 05 de setembro corrente, no centro cultural de Namicopo, dois indivíduos, por sinal secretários de quarteirões do bairro Carrupeia, posto administrativo de Namicopo, alegadamente na posse de 65 cartões de recenseamento eleitoral como forma de impedir que os legítimos donos exerçam o direito de voto no dia (11) de outubro próximo.

Falando a imprensa, Ulane disse que os dois indivíduos tinham sido mandatados pelo partido FRELIMO. “Não há dúvidas que está a se esbanjar dinheiro porque prometeram ganhar as eleições no dia 11 de outubro, como tiveram problemas de desestabilizar o recenseamento e nós percebemos e os nossos membros recensearam, agora ficou a missão de ir enganando com 300,00Mt (trezentos meticais) para recolher os cartões nas pessoas não informadas, de tal forma que correspondam as expectativas que queriam fazer no recenseamento eleitoral. Para alem destes cartões que temos, naquela lista constam números de cartões que não estão aqui que significa que são tantos cartões que foram recolhidos”.
O mandatário da RENAMO disse que o caso será remetido a procuradoria. “Passo a seguir, nós vamos sentar como partido RENAMO de como isso vai ser, mas precisamos levar isso a procuradoria para saber que tem indivíduos na posse de cartões pessoais de recenseamento eleitoral porque é um acto ilícito”.

O mandatário promete devolver os cartões aos legítimos donos. “Então, nós precisamos agora fazer uma campanha para informar que deixem de entregar os cartões, porque são individuais. Estes cartões recolhidos, em troca um valor de trezentos meticais, a intenção do processo de recolha não seria devolvida aos donos com o objetivo de no dia 11 de outubro impedir o direito a voto as pessoas”.

Por outro lado, a delegada provincial do pleito do partido RENAMO, Abiba Abá, fez saber que, como partido político, tem o direto de fiscalizar actos ilícitos para que não haja roubo no processo de votação no dia 11 de outro próximo. “Quero apelar a quem é de direto, o Celso Correia, como ao senhor Vaquina, para que abandonem este espírito e vamos fazer eleições livres, justas e transparentes e esta é a democracia, porque a RENAMO está aqui na cidade a trabalhar e o povo já viu em quem deve acreditar”, sublinhou

Abiba Aba, acrescentou que a recolha de cartões esta alegadamente a decorrer em todo o país.

Os indiciados na posse de cartões de eleitores afirmam que “a ligação com os cartões eleitoral é por conta de uma associação denominada “204”, onde estão todos os membros que outrora trabalhou no conselho municipal da cidade de Nampula e expulsos sem justa causa. Então, porque estamos próximo das eleições queremos manifestar a nossa parte, embora não estarmos credenciados porque depois vamos entregar as entidades que nos mandou do nosso partido Frelimo”.

Entretanto, outro entrevistado contou que “a gente organizou estes cartões para levarmos aos nossos parceiros que é a Frelimo e este processo fizemos em um dia e nos outros dias nunca tínhamos feito este trabalho”.
