Mozambique: One dead after terrorist attack on a truck - AIM report

A male taxi driver, aged 37, from Mozambique, was arrested with about 50 kilograms of suspected drugs (Heroin) at Lebombo Port of Entry in the afternoon of Monday, 04 September 2023 around 13:00.
According to information, members of the SAPS working at the border were busy with their normal routine duties when they stopped a white Toyota Quantum minibus with North West registration number plates.
The said vehicle, which carried commuters at the time was searched and it was during this period when members discovered the suspected drugs in the form of powder, concealed inside some plastic containers which were in a trailer pulled by the said kombi. Members utilized apparatus to ascertain if the substance discovered was indeed drugs, before arresting the driver.
The suspect was then charged with dealing in drugs.
He was expected to appear at the Komatipoort Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday facing the said charges.
The Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Lieutenant General Semakaleng Daphney Manamela has welcomed the man’s arrest and applauded members for their continuous vigilance at the borders. The General further sent a stern warning against those who take chances to smuggle through illicit items that law enforcement agencies will continue to deal with them by apprehending them so that they face the full might of the law.
