‘The Monologue of the Prostitute in the Asylum’ @ Leite Couto Foundation
This Thursday, 10 August, the Fernando Leite Couto Foundation presents 'The Monologue of the Prostitute in the Asylum'.
The piece tells the story of a prostitute who is being interrogated by a doctor. The character relates her life trajectory, revealing that she is fully aware of her condition and, even recognizing herself as dead/alive, finds the strength to react to her oppressors.
Her testimony reveals the lifelong journey of a victim of gender violence. The genesis of the piece was an historical plague of rapes and murders of women throughout the country, but with special emphasis on the city of Beira in Sofala province.
