Mozambique’s 11th National Culture Festival
Maputo Province will host the 11th edition of the National Culture Festival (FNC) from August 23rd to the 27th, under the motto “Culture, the Force that Unites the Nation Towards Development”.
The festival is promoted by the Government of Mozambique, under the responsibility of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism. Its main objective is to preserve and develop the arts, culture and traditions of the different Mozambican communities, create a platform for interaction and exchange and dissemination of the rich and diverse cultural heritage of the country, placing it at the service of society and progress.
The official opening of the FNC will take place at the Black Bulls field in Tchumene neighbourhood at 10:00 a.m. on the 23rd of August.
The festival, which showcases the traditions and cultural practices of the Mozambican people, will feature more than 1,000 artists from across the country, who will exhibit various artistic expressions in the visual arts, handicrafts, music, cinema, dance, gastronomy, photography, fashion, literature and theatre genres and other manifestations imbued with symbolic value and impregnated with secular knowledge which enable socialisation as well as providing entertainment.
In addition to national delegations from all the provinces of Mozambique, the festival will enjoy the participation of foreign delegations, an indicator that culture is an indispensable element in the establishment of virtual bridges between peoples and nations.
“The 11th National Festival of Culture is a mechanism for implementing policies and strategies contained in various reflections focused on culture as an important dimension of development, on the other hand, it was constituted as a true ‘popular festival’, a space for intercultural conviviality both generational and inter-ethnic which, unequivocally, strengthens national unity and Mozambicanity, foundations for the preservation of the spirit of peace, harmony and stability, as well as solidarity and friendship between peoples,” the press release from the Ministry of Culture and Tourism reads.
In its varied expressions, the National Culture Festival reflects the Mozambican socio-cultural mosaic, one of the greatest riches of Mozambique, which proudly distinguishes it in the concert of nations. “It is the highest moment of celebration and exaltation of Mozambican culture, in which the rich and diverse millenary cultural traditions reflect the greatness and strength of Mozambique, at the same time that they constitute a prodigious contribution to the history and civilizations of Humanity,” the announcements details.
In general terms, the 11th FNC is of a demonstrative nature, with a competitive element in the district and provincial phases for the selection of artists and cultural groups with the best repertoire to perform in the final phase in Maputo.
Competitive phases began on the 1st of May and ended on the 5th of August of this year. Preparations for the final phase, which will last five days, took place during this period.
