The government has announced the construction of 22 more district hospitals in various provinces countrywide.
The health units that will be built within the scope of the presidential ‘One District, One Hospital’ initiative.
The announcement was made in Maputo on Thursday by Prime Minister Adriano Maleiane at the closing of the International Conference on Health Sector Infrastructure Investment.
“This conference has facilitated the reaffirmation of the urgency and importance of collaboration and the establishment and articulation of synergies between the government, the private sector, civil society and cooperation partners to accelerate the implementation of health units at the district level. We would also like to underline the commitment reached at this conference with various partners willing to grant funding for the construction of another 22 district hospitals, to be added to the 49 currently in place,” the Prime Minister said.
The Prime Minister also announced the training of 2,000 health professionals in response to the demand for health services.
