Speaking in Maputo on Thursday (13-07), the Chamber of Commerce of Mozambique (CCM) expressed interest in seeing businesspeople from the International Chamber of Transport Industry (CIT) investing in the country.
The invitation was made by the president of the CMM, Álvaro Massingue, speaking at the 36th Extraordinary General Assembly of the CIT.
“As the first African Chapter of the CIT, I want to confess that we would also like to be the first on this continent to enjoy the benefits that our membership can produce in terms of attracting investment and economic empowerment, particularly in the transport industry,” he said.
He added that “the idea is to replicate the experience of the large organisation in Mozambique, so as to improve the conditions of our transporters and our infrastructure”.
“We are making every effort to attract the big investors in the area of roads, in the area of transport, to facilitate the connection with our businessmen and from there the projects arise that, with the negotiations that are being made, the businessmen are identifying,” he said.
On the same occasion, the Executive Director of CIT, Marcelo Felippes, remarked that the institution he directs hopes to realise partnerships for mutual growth.
“In addition to education that brings many opportunities, in concrete terms, we bring businessmen who want to invest, business partnerships for mutual growth,” he underlined. “It also brings institutional and technological support and opens a great door for Mozambique to reach other realities and have the opportunity to interact and, perhaps, bring immense opportunities to Mozambique.”
In turn, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTC), Ambrósio Sitoe, said he was looking for a regulator for the rail and port sector.
“The transport and communications sector is working on the implementation of the rail-port transport regulator,” he said.
The CIT has a presence in 59 countries around the world. Mozambique was admitted as the organisation’s first African member country.
