The Mozambican Supreme Court is to extradite Nigerian citizen Babatunde Tajudeen Abioye to the Netherlands, where he will serve a prison sentence for drug trafficking, the Mozambican Attorney General’s Office (PGR) announced on Tuesday.
In a statement, the PGR advances that the extradition order follows the arrest of Abioye in Maputo on the 4th of November last, following an international arrest warrant issued by Interpol on 17 December 2016, and revalidated in 2019, at the request of the Dutch judicial authorities.
“This action is the result of legal and judicial cooperation between states and their commitment to the implementation of international conventions, within the scope of preventing and combating organised and transnational crime,” a communiqué states.
The PGR also says that Abioye is the target of a criminal case still under investigation in Mozambique, concerning the forgery of documents and their use, criminal association and active corruption.
