Mozambique: State wants domestic medicine production to reduce dependency

The National Inspection of Economic Activities (INAE) seized 10 tons of chicken in the first quarter of this year. The product was allegedly being sold in establishments across the city of Maputo without the appropriate import licences.
INAE general inspector Rita Freitas told Noticias that national legislation does not allow the importation of chicken, because inadequate conservation and hygiene conditions make the product unfit for consumption.
Freitas said the fact that informal operators bring chicken from Brazil and the United States, and elsewhere, first to neighbouring South Africa, before importing it into Mozambique illegally.
