The Niassa Special Reserve is going to invest around US$17 million (about one billion meticais) in the electric fencing of agricultural production zones this year.
Work is currently underway to update project data with the investor.
The administrator of the Niassa Special Reserve, Terêncio Tamele, said that the fencing of productive zones aims to minimise human-wildlife conflict within the conservation area.
Tamele also said that the Niassa reserve would later this year carry out an elephant census and mapping operation. Numbers are thought to have increased recently as a result of successful anti-poaching measures.
The Niassa Special Reserve occupies an area of 42,000 square kilometres, covering six districts in Niassa province and two in Cabo Delgado.
