The Ministry of Health on Monday announced the holding of an international conference next week (13-14 July) aimed at attracting investment in infrastructure for the sector, in a joint initiative with the Ministry of Economy and Finance.
The conference will be held under the motto “Investing to Achieve Universal Access to Health Services” and, according to Deputy Minister of Health Dr Ilessh Jani, the objective is to expand health infrastructure across Mozambique.
“The general objective of the conference is to mobilise resources and establish commitments for partnerships and investment in health facilities,” Jani said. “Furthermore, it has the following specific objectives: to mobilise financial resources for the completion of works in progress, rehabilitation, requalification, construction and equipping of district hospitals.”
The Deputy Minister of Economy and Finance, Amilcar Tivane, on the other hand, said he expected the event to deliver improvements in the provision of health services in the country.
“It’s not enough to build infrastructure; there are additional expenses associated with expanding infrastructure,” Tivane said. “We are basically talking here about medical-surgical equipment, the training of human resources and the need to provide resources for supplies.”
“All these expenses have the need to ensure that the expansion of the infrastructure is accompanied by adequate investments in other inputs, such as human resources and supplies, so that we can use the expense,” Tivane added.
The International Investment Conference is supported by the World Health Organization and the United Nations Development Program.
