A photograph by Biodiversity Offsets Program Coordinator at BIOFUND Mozambique Denise Nicolau has been awarded an honourable mention in the 2023 Biodiversity Photo Contest promoted by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).
Denise Nicolau’s photograph is among the ten best photos in the contest, which marked International Biological Diversity Day [May 22].
“These photos tell the story of USAID’s biodiversity programming across nine key areas: food security; nature-based solutions to climate change; diversity, equity and inclusion; marine and fisheries; combating conservation crime; wildlife conservation; One Health; communities and conservation; and conservation enterprises,” USAID comments in a communique.

An enthusiastic photographer of wildlife and conservation themes, Denise Nicolau is a biologist with a M.Sc. degree in Coastal Ecosystems and Aquatic Biology from Eduardo Mondlane University, and is a coordinator of the Biodiversity Offsets Program at BIOFUND.
