Interior Minister Arsénia Massingue paid a working visit to the districts of Mocimboa da Praia and Macomia in the north of Cabo Delgado province on Wednesday, expressing satisfaction at the good relationship she observed between the communities and the military and paramilitary forces operating in the Northern Operational Theatre.
In contact with the Police and the military forces of Rwanda and SADC [SAMIM] supporting the fight against terrorism, the Interior Minister learned that, in addition to military action against criminals, the Defence and Security Forces (FDS) had also carried out social actions aimed at bringing the forces closer to the communities, as well as helping the returning residents to reintegrate in their areas of origin.
A significant part of those returning are struggling with the lack of housing and other resources, much of which was destroyed by the terrorist insurgency in the district.
Minister Massingue also observed that, in the context of good relations with the military and paramilitary forces, the communities of Mocimboa da Praia, for example, had benefited from primary health care through health assistance campaigns carried out by FDS medical personnel.
She also learned that the FDS had been promoting education through the supply of school material, as well as providing sporting equipment and cleaning materials for housing areas.
The minister praised and saluted the wholesomeness of interactions between the various branches of the FDS and the population, considering them to be very healthy.
As part of her agenda, Minister Massingue also visited the ongoing rehabilitation works at the police District Command in Mocimboa da Praia, on which occasion it was announced that work would be completed by July, improving working conditions for staff currently operating out of a provisional facility.
