Mozambique’s President Filipe Nyusi yesterday conveyed condolences to his Rwandan counterpart President Paul Kagame, for the deaths caused by torrential rains in the country.
“In this moment of pain and sadness, I would like to convey, on behalf of the people, the Government of Mozambique, and myself, our most heartfelt condolences,” wrote Filipe Nyusi.
The message is addressed “especially to families mourning this calamity”, said the head of state in the message.
Torrential rains caused flooding and landslides in western and northern Rwanda a week ago, displacing more than 9,000 people, according to official figures.
The precipitation then hit the Democratic Republic of Congo (DR Congo) on Thursday, where the death toll rose to 402.
