Moza Banco is supporting Mozambique’s participation in the World Judo Championships taking place from 7th to the 17th of May in Doha, Qatar, in which the country will be represented by national champion Jacira Ferreira.
Moza Banco’s support will ensure the participation of the medal-winning Mozambican judoka in the modality’s most prestigious global competition.
Jacira Ferreira, who competes in the 52 kg category, leaves for the capital of Qatar in the Persian Gulf on Saturday (06-05) and should fight her first bout on Monday (08-05). In addition to the athlete, the Mozambican delegation includes coach Edson Madeira and congress delegate and delegation officer Bruno Luzia.
“We believe that sports, in its varied modalities and levels, is a powerful tool for human development and, for this reason, it is one of our main areas of intervention,” said João de Almeida Mota, Director of Marketing Channels, Communication and Social Responsibility at Moza Banco.
“As an institution, we remain committed to ensuring the development of our people and our sports. The gesture aims to provide our champion with better training and preparation conditions, as well as pave the way for excellent performances, allowing her to raise the national flag high and project the name of the country at regional and world level. It is our conviction that, with the strength, dedication and commitment that the athlete has shown, the conditions are created for a befitting performance in the competitions to come.”
Jacira Ferreira secured a spot for the World Judo Championships in Doha by being among the top 100 judokas in the world, and is the only Mozambican athlete participating in the competition. A good performance in Doha will improve her world ranking and increase her chance of qualifying for the Olympic Games in Paris next year (2024).
Jacira Ferreira won a bronze medal at the African Open in Algiers last March.
She has been national champion in the 52 kg category since 2013, and also holds trophies at a regional level including a Bronze Medal in the Zone VI Championships 2015, Gaborone, Botswana; a Silver Medal in the AUSC Region 5 Games, Luanda, Angola; a Bronze Medal at the African Open 2019, Yaounde, Cameroon; and a Bronze Medal at the African Open 2020 Dakar, Senegal.
