There is no consensus in the political dialogue on the governance of the six provinces demanded by Renamo, with the government and Renamo yesterday again showing signs of disagreement.
In the presence of international mediators, the government and Renamo resumed talks on the governance of the six provinces claimed by Afonso Dhlakama yesterday. After the hour and a half behind closed doors, the mediators left the room without comment, a sign perhaps that the homework they had set had not made any progress.
Without the mediators, the Joint Commission meeting resumed. When it about an hour later finished, no statements were issued to the press invited to cover the meeting, and instead the government and Renamo delegations left through separate entrances.
Analysts suggest that this is an indication that the parties are still far from any compromise on the issues on the table.
