Carriers ferrying passengers to the Land of the Rand are seeing their income succumb to the depreciation of the metical against the South African currency. with the number of people travelling to South Africa for various reasons declining recently.
Transport companies however expect the rand to fall, and the number of Mozambicans doing business in neighbouring South Africa to rise once more to the usual numbers.
“We are having problems with the lack of passengers travelling and fuel becoming more expensive, which further complicates our lives, but we can only hope that next month things will get better,” one of the carriers told Folha de Maputo.
