MozParks advocates for sustainable partnerships in industrial sector to boost SME’s and drive economic development in Mozambique

Onório Manuel, the Managing Director of MozParks advocates that Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) should create sustainable partnerships in the industrial sector due to the value chain that they hold from production to processing, which may make companies more independent in the search for opportunities within anchor projects.

Onório Manuel made an x-ray of the emergence of Beluluane Industrial Park (existing for about 23 years), through an anchor project (Mozal), which is generating more than 10 thousand jobs and aggregating more than 50 companies installed within Beluluane Industrial Park, in Maputo province, representing about 17 countries.

He said that MozParks is in the process of opening more Industrial Parks in Cabo Delgado (CDParks), specifically in Palma, Balama, Montepuez, Ancuabe and a Logistic base in Pemba. The CD Parks aim to accelerate economic development, promote and boost job creation for young people and develop the green economy in Cabo Delgado province.

Onório Manuel encouraged Small and Medium Enterprises to join the Industrial Park Project looking at the Topuito Industrial Park in Nampula led by the multinational Kenmare, the most transparent company in the extractive industry in Mozambique, which explores titanium in that district of Larde.

During the business meeting called Busines Pitch, MozParks focused its attention to the Cabo Delgado Parks, which, as it sustains, may boost the province’s development driven by gas exploration with an enormous potential in its value chain to galvanize the local economy in more than 100 thousand direct workers within the CD Parks.

For Onório Manuel, the implementation of CD Parks is important, as a mechanism for creating a base for local content, and therefore taking advantage of opportunities in the value chain of megaprojects, some of which exploit non-renewable resources, and there is therefore the need to leave a contribution to local socio-economic development.

The CD Parks bring multiple advantages, such as the access to infrastructure land (power, water and road), industrial, storage, protected perimeter, secure business environment, economies of scale, circular economy, complete investment solutions, potential for tax and customs incentives.
