The increase of staple food prices is the main factor behind reduced volumes at national markets and particularly at the Zimpeto wholesale market, the leading supplier of products in the capital, where vendors have recorded losses.
Tomatoes, onions and potatoes have all gone up this month, with increases ranging from 100 to 150 meticais.
Some vendors have tried reducing prices to attract customers, but with little success. For customers, the increase in commodity prices is critical, as they are forced to revisit their budgets in order to meet domestic needs.
