Mozambique: President of the Republic meets with Venâncio Mondlane to strengthen political ...
The Mozambican Women’s Organization (OMM) has appealed for the strengthening of solidarity in support of those affected by the rains across the country, especially in Zambezia province.
The appeal was made in Maputo today (16-03) by the president of the organization, First Lady of Mozambique, Isaura Nyusi, after the laying of a wreath on the occasion of the OMM’s 50th anniversary. The OMM, a Frelimo party social organisation, had always played a role in contributing to the success of the governance of the party led by Filipe Nyusi, the First Lady said.
Speaking on the same occasion, President of the Republic Nyusi said: “We remain committed to fighting endemic diseases and to raising production and productivity in all areas of work.” “On the other hand,” he added, “this being an election year, the appeal is for all of us to organize ourselves to participate actively in the whole process of preparing and holding the 2023 municipal and 2024 general elections.”
He pledged that the OMM’s mission will be geared to ensuring Frelimo’s success on all fronts in Mozambique’s development, especially during electoral contests.
Minister of Gender, Children and Social Action, Nyeleti Mondlane, then reported that her ministry does not yet have the exact number of women affected by the cyclones buffeting the country. “We don’t have the exact number yet,” she said.
“Tropical Storm Freddy remains active over Mozambique, especially in Zambezia province, and we are receiving numbers not only of women, but of all [affected] citizens in the country,” the minister reported.
By Saturday, however, it may be possible to say how many women had been affected. “I think that by the day after tomorrow (Saturday), when it is predicted that the cyclone will have already abated, we may have more precise data,” she assured her audience.
