Daviz Simango, President of the MDM and of the Municipal Council of Beira as well as Member of the Council of State, died two years ago. To mark the date, members and supporters of the country’s third-largest political party took to the streets to remember their former president and reaffirm their struggle for the good of the people.
On the streets and avenues of the Mozambican capital, members and supporters of the ‘Galo Party’ reaffirmed that the death of its founding member does not mean the end of the party.
Augusto Banzo, MDM’s Southern Region spokesperson, spoke of the importance of Daviz Simango’s legacy.
“More than just marching, we have a duty to honour him, roll up our sleeves and give continuity to his legacy, but also to his vision of a ‘Mozambique for All’. Therefore, today the MDM is celebrating, because heroes do not die,” Banzo declared.

Among the memories, MDM militants point to the municipal elections as the next challenge, towards yet another achievement, following the ideals of Daviz Simango as founder of the MDM and president of the Municipal Council of Beira.
“The MDM emerges to win elections, to be able to promote political alternation and this is what I was referring to as the consolidation of democracy in Mozambique. The MDM brings the consolidation of democracy in Mozambique and, in this sense, we came to exist, we won elections and we will overcome all the challenges that we have ahead of us,” Banzo said.
Such were the promises from members and supporters of the party who remembered this Wednesday in Maputo the passage of the second year of the death of David Simango, from an illness, in South Africa.
