More than 400 people are displaced in parts of Manhica district, Maputo province, following floods resulting from the rise in the flow of the Incomati river.
District Administrator Maria Moçambique says that extensive agricultural areas have been flooded.
“We have 420 displaced people who will need assistance for the most part. We are preparing accommodation which is expected to be at the 3 de Fevereiro school. In OnIlha Josina Machel we found flooded areas but without any need for support, but at the Xinavane administrative post, in the 25 de Setembro locality, we are assisting over 130 people,” she said.
“We also have more than 8,000 hectares of lost crops, with the emphasis on maize,“ the Manhica District Administrator added.
In addition to the losses in Manhica district, the rising Incomati waters damaged a water supply system in Moamba, leaving more than 4,000 people without access to water.
