The arrival in Mozambique of the main components of three new electrical substations creates conditions for the first phase of a high-voltage electricity transmission “backbone” linking Maputo and Temane, in Inhambane province.
In all, 38 transformers for the Temane Transmission Line (TTP) were unloaded at the Port of Maputo yesterday.
The transformers, valued at US$35 million, will in the coming weeks be transported to defined points for the installation of the Vilankulo, Chibuto and Matalane substations, as well as the expansion of the Maputo substation.
TTP project director Adriano Jonas told journalists that, when completed, the power line would enable rural electrification and boost agricultural activity and mining all along its route.
