Mozambique: Black smoke, looting, riots, tear gas bring chaos to Maputo
Screen grab: Miramar
The Attorney General’s Office (PGR) has shut down, in the city of Beira, another company owned by Chinese citizen Jiye Zhuo, who is being investigated over alleged money laundering.
This is the second of more than 10 companies Jiye Zhuo owns in Mozambique to be closed by the supervisory authorities in less than two months.
The firm now closed is private security firm GPS Gigante Panda Segurança., which has offices in Beira.
As a result, more than 3,000 of the firm’s workers demonstrated in Beira yesterday, claiming two months’ unpaid wages, and with their respective employers in uncertain whereabouts.
‘Notícias’ has learned from the PGR and the Police of the Republic of Mozambique that a number of firearms were seized during the closure of the security company.
