Employees of private security companies Danger Security and Puma in the Cumbeza neighbourhood, Marracuene district, Maputo province, went on strike last Friday morning, demanding payment of overdue wages, Notícias reports.
The protesters say they have not been paid since November, even after negotiations secured payment to workers in four of the six companies in the group.
“They promised that we would receive our salaries this Friday, but when we arrived, the employers said they did not have money to pay the months in arrears,” they say.
An anonymous company representative claims that negotiations are underway, but that currently there were no resources available for the payment of the security guards’ salaries.
