Four people, including three children, have drowned off Costa do Sol beach in Maputo over the last week.
“The PRM, at the level of the city of Maputo, this [last] week recorded four deaths resulting from drowning on the Costa do Sol beach,” police spokeswoman Marta Pereira said, quoted by AIM.
“We had a case on Monday of an eight-year-old boy, who was accompanied by his friends in the mangrove area, where they were swimming. All were swept away. The Coastal Police team on standby was able to save five. The body of one more was retrieved the next day,” she explained.
On Wednesday, Pereira revealed, another lifeless body was recovered, that of a 25-year-old man who went to the beach around 11:00 pm to fish but was unable to exit the waters.
On Friday two of a group of five children who went swimming were swept away and would later be found dead.
