Mr. Toufik Hakkar President and Chief Executive Officer of Sonatrach and Mr. Claudio Desclazi Chief Executive Officer of Eni have signed today two strategic memoranda of intention to define the future joint projects related to energy supply, energy transition and decarbonisation.
These agreements were signed in the presence of Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune President of the Republic and the Italian Prime Minister Mrs. Giorgia Meloni.
The first strategic memorandum of intention aims to identify the best options to increase Algerian energy exports to Europe in order to ensure energy security while supporting a sustainable energy transition.
For this purpose, four projects will be considered: The extension of the existing transport gas capacity, the laying of a new gas pipeline for the transport of natural gas and alternatively hydrogen and blue and green ammonia, laying a submarine power cable and the expansion of the current natural gas liquefaction capacity.
The second strategic memorandum will identify the opportunities to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in Algeria and the best technologies to implement this objective.
These new agreements reinforce the solid partnership between Algeria and Italy and confirm Sonatrach’s key role as one of Europe’s leading energy suppliers.
