The government at this Tuesday’s cabinet meeting (17-01) approved the definitive salaries for state employees within the scope of the Single Salary Table (TSU), establishing the amount of 8,758 meticais (127 euros) as the minimum wage in the civil service.
“With this approval, the minimum wage for the civil service goes from 4,689 meticais (68 euros) to 8,758 meticais (127 euros), registering a positive evolution of 87%,” Deputy Minister of State Administration and Civil Service Inocêncio Impissa told the press after the meeting in Maputo.
After the minimum wage, which is paid to assistants, agents and workers, the new TSU raises pay for a technical assistant from 5,531 meticais (80 euros) in the previous table to 10,758 meticais (156 euros).
The average technician’s salary rises from 7,443 meticais (108 euros) to 14,758 meticais (214 euros), while professional technicians goes from 8,531 meticais (123 euros) to 17,758 meticais (257 euros).
A senior technician (N1) moves from 17,539 meticais (254 euros) to 37,758 meticais (548 euros) and senior technicians (N2) from 13,565 meticais (196 euros) to 24,358 meticais (353 euros), while a specialist’s pay rises from the current 24,882 meticais (361 euros) to 60,758 meticais (882 euros).
“These remunerations refer to entry levels, which means that state employees and agents with longer years of service will certainly notice slightly higher remunerations due to seniority,” Deputy Minister Impissa explained.
The implementation of the new TSU, adopted in the final months of 2022, was received with widespread opposition on account of its many perceived ’non-conformities’, with criticism coming from professions including judges, teachers and doctors, the latter even organizing a strike to demand the revision of the structure.
