Mozambique and Equatorial Guinea intend to strengthen government inspection mechanisms in order to verify the implementation of programmes guaranteeing the well-being of the citizens and development of the two countries.
For this purpose, the Speaker of the Mozambican Parliament, Esperança Bias, this Monday met her counterpart from Equatorial Guinea, Teresa Assangono, in Brasilia, Brazil, with whom she discussed the possibilities of parliaments acting in the supervision of the executive.
Speaking to the press at the end of the meeting, the President of the Assembly of the Republic, reported that the parties expressed the possibility of cooperation extending to the economic area, with the emphasis on agriculture and energy resources.
“In parliamentary terms, let’s see how we can exploit the fact that Equatorial Guinea is an oil producing country and Mozambique is a natural gas producer country. Soon, we will analyse what role parliament can play in this sector,” Bias said.
The meeting took place the day after both leaders attended the inauguration of Lula da Silva as president of Brazil.
