Mozambique: Six Pakistani citizens detained in Vanduzi, Manica province
Screen grab: Miramar
The number of women murdered in the city of Beira continues to grow. On Sunday night, two men as yet unidentified raped and murdered a 40-year-old woman near her home in the Cerâmica area.
Her body was found on Monday morning (05-12), her capulana wrapped around her neck, as in previous murders, the head of the administrative post told Miramar.
Joao Fernando urged the authorities to take action in the face of the number of similar killings.

The two men went to the victim’s house reportedly looking for a place to rent. Not suspecting any malice, the woman sent her 20-year-old daughter to the market and stayed home with her grand-daughter and the visitors.
They then dragged her off into the bush, where they raped and killed her.
When the daughter returned home, the grand-daughter said: “Granny went with the two men”, a neighbour told Miramar. The daughter followed in their tracks, but found her mother already dead.
“At least 33 women have been murdered under similar circumstances in Beira this year,” wrote Zenaida Machado, a senior researcher in the Africa Division at Human Rights Watch in a comment on this most recent case.
“Some of the women were also raped, “Zenaida Machado writes.”Many of them were sex workers. Police should move from talk to serious action. Women in Beira are living in fear. This is unacceptable.”
