Three members of Renamo in Tete were found dead on Monday morning in the village of Madamba, administrative post of Cambulatsitsi, Moatize district, their bodies riddled with bullets.
A Madamba School primary teacher, speaking on condition of anonymity, relates the events.
“On Sunday at eight o’clock in the evening, a white ‘Ford Ranger’ drove past at a high speed. A few minutes later we heard shots, but we did not worry at the time. Then, to our surprise, this morning [Monday], people coming to farm found the three bodies dumped, and riddled with bullets.”
Renamo structures in the area claim that this is the work of “death squads,” reports Canalmoz.
According to the same source, when it became aware of the existence of the bodies, Renamo in Tete sent a group to identify the victims, as they knew they had three members reported missing. Arriving at the scene, the team found that they were indeed the bodies of the three missing party members.
Canalmoz cites Felix Assomati, Renamo political delegate in Tete, as saying: “To our sorrow, the colleagues sent there confirmed that the bodies are those of our members, abducted by Frelimo police.”
Among the murdered is party leader António Fernando Samo, kidnapped on 22 July in the city of Tete.
