Police in Mozambique have arrested three officers who took possession of money that had been stolen in September by a gang from a bank branch in Tete province, in the centre of the country, according to the National Criminal Investigation Service (Sernic).
Celina Roque, the spokeswoman for Sernic in Tete province, cited by public broadcaster Radio Mozambique, said that the three agents had kept for themselves over 2.5 million meticais (€38,000) that had been stolen from a bank branch in Macanga district.
Roque said that the police officers in question also let one of the gang members go free, promising that nothing would happen to him, in exchange for the money.
