According to economist Carlos Castel-Branco, the Bank of Mozambique, Mozambique’s central bank, doesn’t know how to reverse the depreciation of the metical, and argues that it’s civil society’s role to forge new economic policies.
“The central bank doesn’t know what to do. It’s only touching the substantive issues and taking some classical steps to contain the [metical’s] fall and capital flight, but the mechanisms that are being used only address the little things,” said the economist in an interview with Lusa in Lisbon.
