According to Paulo Majacunene, first secretary of Frelimo in Sofala, 108 members of Frelimo have been murdered in Sofala province by armed Renamo men in the past six months.
Majacunene made his claim on Saturday at the opening of the seventh ordinary session of the Frelimo provincial committee in Beira, explaining that most of the victims were killed after being kidnapped from their homes by armed men in the dead of night.
Chipande again condemned the attacks by Renamo on civilians in the centre of the country.
“This warmongering by armed Renamo men is intended to prevent the movement of men and goods, by attacking, kidnapping, killing and plundering the population. Frelimo again strongly condemns these actions, especially as political dialogue with the presence of international mediators has resumed,” Chipande said.
