A man has been detained on suspicion of involvement in the kidnapping of one of the owners of a furniture store on Avenida de Angola in Maputo on Tuesday.
The National Criminal Investigation Service (SERNIC) on Friday presented a 31-year-old young man who they say participated in the organisation of the kidnapping.
SERNIC spokesman Hilário Lole said that records of telephone calls and messages exchanged with the kidnappers were found.

“The individual is a known delinquent and has been in the criminal underworld for a long time. This time, he was found with evidence of involvement in the recent abduction, including planning, organisation, execution and beyond,” SERNIC spokesman for Maputo city Hilário Lole explained. The accused was accompanied by three other gang members, now fugitives, he added, and one of the criminals is South African.
The detainee denied any involvement in the kidnapping.
SERNIC still does not know where the victim is, but has ascertained that the kidnap mastermind is not in the country.
