The gates of the Michafutene Cemetery, [which serves the city and province of Maputo] , located in the district of Marracuene, were reopened after a stoppage of activities by the gravediggers there. Miramar reports.
After many hours of waiting, dozens of families once again have access to the cemetery for funerals.
The blocking of the gates caused a backlog of several urns, and the funerals delayed will therefore take a little longer.
Despair and chaos sum up the scenario that was experienced this morning at the Michafutene cemetery, located in the district of Marracuene.
Families who went to the cemetery to carry out funerals for their loved ones were prevented from doing so because the gates were locked. The urns transported in funeral vehicles could not be removed from the vehicles, despite the lack of any conservation system.
As time passed, a more serious scenario began to emerge.
Families pleaded that the gates be opened so they could say their final goodbyes, but despite their tears the striking workers were unmoved and refused to open the gates.
Miramar learned that the stoppage of activities was linked to the alleged delay in the payment of the gravediggers’ salaries.
