The Mozambican Road Network (REVIMO) announced yesterday that it had found damage to the Maputo-Katembe bridge asphalt in the area where a trailer truck burned out on the bridge.
REVIMO maintenance director Stalin Machohe was speaking to ‘Noticias Online’ about the damage caused by the fire on Wednesday afternoon.
“There is damage to the asphalt on the platform of the Maputo-Katembe bridge in the area affected by the fire,” Machohe said. “We are meeting with experts to assess the damage and ascertain the type of repairs needed in the area affected.”

Machohe said the burned-out tractor unit was removed from the site by the end of the night after being loaded onto another truck by a crane mobilised by REVIMO, while the trailer was towed away by the owners.
Machohe said that normal traffic flow had been restored despite the severity of the incident, in which a Man Diesel articulated goods vehicle with registration plate AIO 216 MC, owned by Logística Land, caught fire while heading towards Maputo with a 700-bag load of construction cement.
