Mozambique: Military registration kicks off today

The Southern African Development Community Mission in Mozambique (SAMIM) is to transition from Scenario 6 (Rapid Deployment Capability) to Scenario 5 (Multi – dimensional Mission). This was revealed at the recently held 42nd Ordinary Summit of Heads of State and Government in Kinshasa, the Democratic Republic of Congo.
The transition as said by SAMIM Head of Mission and Special Representative of the Chairperson of the Organ on Politics, Defence and Security Cooperation, His Excellency, Ambassador Professor Mpho Molomo comprises of a robust mandate entailing retention of current military capabilities whilst introducing more civilian dimension, lines of support and capabilities in order to support the attainment of the overall SAMIM mandate in Cabo Delgado Province, Republic of Mozambique.
His Excellency also reiterated that the SAMIM Technical Assessment Mission (TAM) comprising of the SADC Organ Troika on Politics, Defence and Security Cooperation members which include:
The Republic of Namibia as Chair, the Republic of Zambia and the Republic of South Africa as members plus the host nation, the Republic of Mozambique. The TAM as highlighted by Professor Molomo is a crucial exercise which serves as a roadmap and guide in the SAMIM transition process. He further said that TAM needs to address peculiarities to be able to realize tangible outcomes. Its objectives seek to develop a deployment plan for the Police, Correctional Services, Civilian components and liaising with the Head of Mission and Force Commander on the formation of Civil Military Operation Centre (CMOC) among others.
Finally, Professor Molomo indicated that TAM which is facilitated by the SADC Secretariat will greatly help in developing a path to stabilization, resilience, macro – economic stability and sustainable development.
