In a message of congratulations sent to the new prime minister of the United Kingdom, Rishi Sunak, the Mozambican president highlighted the dynamism of British democracy.
“Your appointment underlines the vibrant democratic dynamism within your party and across the UK, as well as attesting to confidence in your ability to drive the country forward,” reads the message dated Wednesday.
Nyusi acknowledges the “challenging circumstances” Sunak is facing, but says he believes the new premiere “will capitalise on” the legacy of his predecessors.
The Mozambican president also believes “in the deepening of excellent and fruitful bilateral and multilateral cooperation relations at the level of the Commonwealth, the United Nations and other international fora”.
“My government and I are ready to continue working closely” with the UK, Nyusi’s message concludes.
