Mozambique: Police seizes 573kg of cocaine brought by ship from India
The National Criminal Investigation Service (SERNIC) on Monday presented to the press a 43-year-old man accused of participating in several abductions in Maputo city in 2020 and 2021.
According to SERNIC, the accused facilitated the transport of the victims.
“The detainee was more involved in the preparation of the abductions, from the acquisition of vehicles, modification of the registration plates, to the following of the individuals to be kidnapped,” SERNIC spokesperson Hilário Lole explained.
Although he admits to having received telephone calls for the transport of the victims, the accused denies any involvement in the crimes, saying, “I did not manage to carry it out. What happens is that they arrested the person who contacted me, and he handed me over to the police”.
The individual’s arrest took place while he was on parole for involvement in other abductions in Maputo province.
As regards the whereabouts of the citizen of Asian origin kidnapped on Avenida Alberto Luthuli,in Maputo about two weeks ago, SERNIC has no leads.
