The bridge over the river Natete in Nampula province is to be closed to vehicle traffic for 15 days starting this Monday (10-10). The bridge is located on the Ribáuè-Malema section of tNational Road number 13, the N13, 25 kilometres from the town of Ribáuè.
The suspension will allow repairs to be carried out, restoring stability and improving safety for users, who in recent times have suffered frequent accidents. The damage has been caused by excess loads, a note from the National Roads Administration (ANE) indicates.
“All vehicles with less than 20 tons of cargo will be able to travel via the R692 earthed road from the N13 in Namiconha to Cunle, and on the R1110 from Cunle to the N326 in Iapala, and from there to the intersection with the N13, a diversion of about 50 km,” the ANE document explains.
The ANE warns that, while the bridge is being repaired, vehicles with loads in excess of 20 tons should not use the alternative routes indicated above, since they are earthed roads and therefore at risk of drainage structures collapsing. Goods movements of this size must wait for the repairs to the damaged bridge to be completed.
National Road number 13, the EN113, connects the provinces of Nampula and Niassa and is therefore an important corridor for the transport of passengers and cargo.
