Only one of the three freezers at the Quirimbas Fish Market is working, according to the Minister of the Sea, Inland Waters and Fisheries, Lídia Cardoso.
During her visit to the facility in Ibo district, Cabo Delgado, on Thursday (6-10), Minister Cardoso learned that the problem with the other freezers was related to the failure of their refrigeration systems.
She said that the replacement part needed – an inverter – had already been acquired, and the other freezers would be back in action soon.
Despite the fact that the fish market was inaugurated only four years ago, in 2018, its condition leaves much to be desired, with cracks in the walls and pit covers destroyed , among other shortcomings.
On site, the minister held a meeting with the infrastructure’s Management Committee, urging them to attend to its conservation, it having “cost the state a lot of money”.
