Three people died and four others were seriously injured in a serious road accident at the Administrative Post of Chidenguele, Mandlakazi district, Gaza province, on Wednesday morning. Seven others, including three minors, suffered light injuries, but are out of danger.
The accident involved a heavy goods vehicle and a light vehicle transporting passengers, which collided in the area of the Chidenguele crossing. Eleven patients and one of the deceased were admitted to the Chidenguele Health Centre.
The Provincial Command of the Republic of Mozambique (PRM) in Gaza revealed that the bodies of the two persons who died at the scene of the accident were delivered to their respective families in the Betula area of Chidenguele.
The accident took place around nine o’clock on Wednesday. The PRM cites unsafe overtaking by the driver of the heavy goods vehicle as the cause of the accident.
According to a Ministry of Transport and Communications statement sent to O País, the driver of the heavy vehicle had just been inspected, at the Chizavane post, about 10 km from the scene of the accident, where his driving licence was seized.
The driver of the light goods vehicle, which was illegally transporting passengers, fled the crash scene.
“The Multi-sectoral Inspection Brigade in Gaza, made up of staff from the National Institute of Road Transport, the Traffic Police and health and district administration authorities, arrived at the scene immediately to provide the necessary support to the victims and their families, as well as to collect information for an expert investigation, with work being carried out to remove the truck, which was partially blocking the road,” the document reads.
