Mozambique: Population returns to Kutua after terrorist attack – Notícias

The population that had taken refuge in the woods near the village of Kutua, in Eráti district, Nampula province, following the attack perpetrated on Friday by a group of terrorists, has already resumed their normal life, after they withdrew from the region, Notícias reports this Tuesday. The return of the population follows “an intelligence work” carried out shortly after the attack, district administrator, Manuel Manussa, told Notícias.

In the incursion into the village, the terrorist group burned houses and a local health centre. Manussa said that the inhabitants of Kutua village, whose number was not specified, were already circulating and moving freely to their ‘machambas’ [agricultural fields].

The government official said that the terrorists did not actually occupy the village. He added that, after the fear spread by the attack and the “intelligence work” carried out, it was now possible to reach Kutua from the Eráti district headquarters town and other routes.

The village of Kutua borders the province of Cabo Delgado, across the river Lúrio (200-300 metres), and limits with the district of Memba. It is about 300 kilometres distant from the city of Nampula.

A população que se havia refugiado nas matas no povoado de Kutua, distrito de Eráti, na província de Nampula, na sequência do ataque perpetrado sexta-feira por um grupo de terroristas, já retomou a sua vida normal, depois que se retiraram na região.

O regresso da população segue-se a “um trabalho de inteligência” realizado logo após o ataque, segundo revelou ao “Notícias” o administrador distrital, Manuel Manussa.

Na sua incursão à aldeia, o grupo dos terroristas queimou casas e um centro de saúde local. Manussa afirmou que os habitantes do povoado, cujo número não é especificado, já estavam a circular e a deslocar-se livremente às suas machambas.

O governante disse que os terroristas não chegaram a ocupar efectivamente o povoado. Acrescentou que depois do medo espalhado com o ataque e do “trabalho de inteligência” realizado, já era possível chegar-se a Kutua a partir da vila-sede distrital e de outras vias.

O povoado de Kutua faz fronteira com a província de Cabo Delgado, através do rio Lúrio (200-300 metros), e limite com o distrito de Memba. Dista cerca de 300 quilómetros da cidade de Nampula.
