Unicef provided emergency assistance to 61,400 people in Mozambique in 2024

The Mozambican health authorities reported a further 15 cases of the Covid-19 respiratory disease at the weekend, 11 on Saturday and four on Sunday.
According to a Sunday press release from the Ministry of Health, that day’s four cases were all Mozambican males. One was a baby boy less than a year old, and the oldest was 82. Three of these cases were from Maputo city and one was from Cabo Delgado.
Since the start of the pandemic, 1,382,288 people have been tested in Mozambique for the coronavirus that causes Covid-19, 192 of them in the previous 24 hours. 188 of these tests yielded negative results, and the four who tested positive raised the total number of positive cases diagnosed in Mozambique to 230,032.
No Covid-19 patients were discharged from hospital on Sunday and no new cases were admitted. The number of patients undergoing medical care in the Covid-19 wards was eight on both Saturday and Sunday, four of whom were in intensive care and receiving supplementary oxygen.
Only one recovery from the disease was reported on Sunday, from Zambezia province. The total number of recoveries now stands at 227.659, which is 98.95 per cent of all Covid-19 cases ever diagnosed in Mozambique.
The number of active cases of Covid-19 rose from 182 on Saturday to 185 on Sunday. The geographical breakdown of the active cases was as follows: Niassa, 35; Cabo Delgado, 25; Maputo city, 25; Nampula, 24; Zambezia, 24; Tete, 19; Sofala, 18; Gaza, 11; Manica, four; Maputo province, three; and Inhambane, one.
The Ministry press release also reported that a further 1,130 people were vaccinated against Covid-19 on Sunday. The total number fully vaccinated against the disease now stands at 14,678,319, which is 96.5 per cent of all citizens aged 18 and above.
