Authorities in Niassa province were looking for six victims of a boat accident that occurred on Lake Niassa on Friday night, when the vessel was surprised by bad weather.
The victims were among 11 passengers, two children and nine adults, on the sail boat travelling from Chigoma to Licoma, in Kobwe, Niassa.
Five people were rescued by fishermen the same night.
The head of the administrative post in Cóbuè, Rachide Serafim, told Radio Mozambique that the search for survivors or bodies continued.
“The sail boat was carrying 11 people – nine adults and two children – plus bags of fish. Five people were saved, including a woman with a young baby, who managed to hold on to the overturned boat,” he said.
