Mozambique: INGD launches code of conduct for humanitarian actors

The SADC Mission in Mozambique (SAMIM) Forces in support of Forças Armadas da Defesa de Moçambique (FADM) and in collaboration with other security forces deployed, continue to create favourable conditions necessary for a return to normal life in the province Cabo Delgado, Mozambique.
SAMIM continues to create safe and secure environment to allow social and economic development in Cabo Delgado Province of Mozambique. As part of their continued support and protection to the community of Cabo Delgado Province, on 10 August 2022 the South African National Defence Force Contingent donated sports equipment to the PRM Police women soccer team, Malupane and Natite Primary Schools in Pemba.
During the handing over of the sports equipment, the Republic of South Africa National Contingent Commander (RSA NCC), Lieutenant Colonel J.M. Phiri said they contributed the total amount of 24,200.00 metical’s sincerely to support the future soccer stars of Mozambique.
“This was done in support of the objective, which is to reach out to the community, which we are here to support”, she said. Lieutenant Colonel Phiri highlighted that the donation was inspired by the fact that, every morning, we would pass by on our way the offices and see children training and exercising on this soccer field. Their dedication and love for sports touched our hearts to come up with such a donation. Though we wish to do more for the children of Cabo Delgado, this is meant to pave way for such from other good Samaritans to support these children.
She noted that education and skills are the basis for human resource development that provides learners with competencies to attain full potential, thereby enabling them to effectively compete globally in their future endeavours. “It is through this contribution that we as the military demonstrate our love and commitment for the people and the communities we are serving,” she added.
Lieutenant Colonel Phiri commended the efforts coaches in shaping young minds and the future leaders of Mozambique and she also encouraged the children to stay in school, so that they can contribute positively in their communities. She concluded by saying players (students) continue playing as they may end up playing for international teams. The sports equipment comprised of Pressure Pumps, Cones, Volleyball nets, Jumping Ropes, Soccer balls, Tennis balls and Volleyballs.
