More than 2,000 Mozambique Electricity (EDM) customers in the main town of Chinde district, Zambézia province, have been deprived of electricity since the early hours of Thursday, due to the rupture of supply cables in the Zambezi River region.
The head of Operational Planning and Statistics at EDM, Alcides Gouveia, who confirmed the facts of the situation to ‘Notícias’, said that company technicians were assessing the technical conditions on site in order to devise a solution to the problem.
Gouveia also reported that the cable rupture had occurred in the same place where the collapse of electricity transmission poles interrupted supply in 2016.
Work is currently underway on the partial replacement of the supply line, which could be completed next week.
Gouveia explained that the greatest challenge was transporting materials and equipment to the site, on one of the banks of the Zambezi River.
