Mozambique: No need to isolate mpox patients in health facilities

The Mozambican health authorities on Monday reported only four new cases of the Covid-19 respiratory disease and 16 recoveries.
According to a Monday press release from the Ministry of Health, three of the new cases were men and one was a woman. One was a child under 12 months of age, and the oldest was 70 years old.
Three of the new cases were from Maputo city and one was from Cabo Delgado. No cases were reported from the other nine provinces.
Since the start of the pandemic, 1,372,132 people have been tested in Mozambique for the coronavirus that causes Covid-19, 114 of them in the previous 24 hours. 110 of these tests yielded negative results, and the four who tested positive raised the total number of positive cases diagnosed in Mozambique to 229,759.
The hospital situation remained static on Monday. No Covid-19 patients were discharged from hospital and no new cases were admitted. 10 people were under medical treatment in the Covid-19 wards, the same number as on Sunday. Five of these patients were in Maputo city, two in Niassa and one each in Cabo Delgado, Zambezia and Inhambane.
No deaths from Covid-19 were reported on Monday. Hence the total Covid-19 death toll in Mozambique remains 2,216.
The 16 recoveries include nine from Inhambane, four from Maputo province, and three from Zambezia. The total number of recoveries now stands at 227,271, which is 98.92 per cent of all Covid-19 cases ever diagnosed in Mozambique.
The number of active cases of Covid-19 fell from 280 on Sunday to 268 on Monday. The geographical distribution of the active cases was as follows: Sofala, 87; Zambezia, 63; Maputo city, 29; Nampula, 22; Tete, 21; Gaza, 13; Cabo Delgado, 11; Inhambane, 10; Niassa, seven; Maputo province, three; and Manica, two.
The Ministry release also reported that on Monday a further 1,948 people, all from Cabo Delgado, were vaccinated against Covid-19. The number of people fully vaccinated against the disease now stands at 14,625,683, which is 96.2 per cent of all citizens aged 18 and above.
